Three Laventille men were among 18 people arrested in a 24- hour police exercise by Central Division police. The men, whose ages range from 21 to 28, were charged for the illegal possession of a firearm and are expected to be placed on an identification parade.
According to reports, around 5 am on Monday, police led by Snr Supt Dulalchan and Supt Abraham and PC Fortini received information that the men were seen getting into a car with the weapon.
Police intercepted the men in Felicity, and found a .38 revolver loaded with three rounds of ammunition. An hours later, a team of police led by Cpl Ali, PC Guerra and PC Narine were on patrol along Montrose Main Road, Chaguanas when they saw three people breaking into the home of a retired police superintendent.
They ambushed the three as they forced open the front door. Two Guyanese nationals were also arrested for illegally entering the country and another two people were held for possession of narcotics. Police also issued 78 tickets for various traffic offences.
