Health officials spent the day at the Central Police Station, Port-of-Spain, yesterday inoculating policemen with anti-small pox vaccine.Four days earlier, policemen at the Port-of-Spain Magistrates Court appealed for the Ministry of Health to provide vaccinations in response to a reported chicken pox outbreak at the State Prison, Port-of-Spain, and the Golden Grove Prisons, Arouca.
The T&T Guardian learned vaccines were not limited to only Court and Process officers but were extended to include all officers interfacing with prisoners.Court staff, including notetakers and magistrates, will be inoculated today. No prisoners were brought to court yesterday for a fourth consecutive day and magistrates continued to remand prisoners in absentia.
Although Prisons Commissioner Martin Martinez could not be reached yesterday, the T&T Guardian learned prison officers and civilian staff employed at the two prisons had been vaccinated on Monday.
