MIDDLESBROUGH–Trinidadian striker Jason Scotland snatched the winner for Barnsley with his third goal in as many games as the visitors beat Middlesbrough 3-2 in the English Championship on Saturday.
Barnsley led through James O'Brien's sixth minute strike but fell behind in the second half through goals Mustapha Carayol (50th) and Curtis Main (62nd).
However, Scott Golbourne equalised in the 70th minute to leave the game in the balance before Scotland came off the bench to seal the result six minutes later at the Riverside Stadium, as Barnsley continued to inch their way out of the relegation zone.
They were in front when O'Brien's effort took a deflection and beat goalkeeper Jason Steele, an advantage that held until half-time.
After the break, Carayol levelled when he tapped in a rebound after his initial effort was parried by the goalkeeper and substitute Main put the hosts in front 12 minutes later when he squeezed in at the back post.
Golbourne's simple close range finish brought Barnsley level until Scotland, a 63rd minute substitute, smashed in a volley following Golbourne's indirect free kick.
The 33-year-old Scotland arrived at Barnsley last month on a free transfer from Ipswich until the end of the season. CMC
