The popular Kia Around Gasparee Open Water Swim will take place on March 10, at 9 am.
This year's 9th annual swim will start and end on the northern side of the island, St Ignatius Bay (Island Yacht Charters), and go clockwise around the island, a distance of 5,600 metres.
Last year, 59 swimmers took part in the event, including some top teenagers. This year, the management of the Trinity Masters swim club expects 100 swimmers to take entry and this will include some top distance swimmers.
To date, some 25 swimmers have registered and only the first 100 entrants will be accepted. This year's prizes will be for the 1st to 10th placed males and females, as well as first place prizes for all masters swimmers. Swimmers will be provided with a Kia Jersey, Kia swim cap and a meal and drinks after the race is finished.
Safety is the number-one priority for the Trinity Masters swim club and they have already reserved one Coast Guard vessel, five motor boats and 20 kayaks for this event. Invitations have already been sent to clubs belonging to the Amateur Swimming Association of Trinidad and Tobago (ASATT), and interested swimmers can also obtain entry forms through the following persons:
