Deon Lendore is the highest-ranked local athlete on the latest National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division One indoor track and field rankings. Lendore (Texas A&M) is at number two in the men's 400m following his personal best clocking of 45.91 seconds in winning the event at the Texas A&M Triangular on January 19.
The 20-year-old's time was the fastest in the NCAA and the world at the time until David Verburg (George Mason) sped to 45.83, ran on an oversised track at the SPIRE Track Invitational, Geneva, Ohio on February 8. Geronne Black, Hileen James and Alena Brooks are also in the top ten in their events. Black (Portland State) lies at sixth in the women's 60m ranking with her personal best clocking of 7.27. Auburn's Kai Selvon is at 17th (7.36). James (Georgia) sits at ninth in the women's shot put 16.80 (pb) while in the women's 800m Brooks (Minnesota) is at 10th with 2:06.24 (pb).
Wayne Davis 11 (23rd-M 60m hurdles-7.86), Jamol James (35th-M 60m-6.72)/39th-M LJ-7.36), Richard Collingwood (40th-M shot put-17.94-pn), Selvon (36th-W20m-23.90), Sparkle McKnight (23rd-W 400m-53.94), Shawn Fermin (39th-W 400m-54.38), Janeil Bellille (46th-W 400m-54.48) are also in the top 50.
In the division two standings, sprinter Reyare Thomas is at number four at both the women's 60m and 200m. The Abilene Christian student clocked 7.45 in the shorter sprint and 23.95 (converted) in the 200m, both personal best times. Jameel Walcott (St. Augustine) is ranked at 17th in the men's 800m (1:53.25).
On the Junior College rankings, Elton Walcott (South Plains) is at third in the men's triple jump with a leap of 15.71. Fellow South Plains student Shun-Shauna Mason is at fourth (7.57) in the women's 60m and seventh (24.94) in the 200m. Jessica James (Iowa Central) is also in the top ten lying at ninth in the 400m (57.54). Kernesha Spann (Western Texas) is two places lower at 12th (57.92). Dan-Neil Telesford is at 16th in the men's 200m (21.82), 27th in the 400m (49.31) and 45th at 600m (1:24.04).
Lendore, Black, Emmanuel Stewart and Deborah John are at the top of the rankings in their respective conferences. Lendore is ahead in the men's 400m in the Southern Eastern Conference (SEC) while Black is ahead on the Big Sky 55m performance list.
The 23-year-old is also 15th in the 200m (25.38). Stewart (Morgan State) is at the top of Weight Throw ratings in the Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference with a distance of 18.86. The 2008 Carifta boys under 20 discus champion is also at 55th in the shot put (14.85). In the Summit League, John is at number one in the women's 60m hurdles (8.42) and second in the 60m flat (7.65). Robert and Richard Collingwood, T'Keyah Dumoy, Kashef Daniel, Hileen James, Sparkle McKnight, Selvon, Davis, Samantha Shukla, Shawna Fermin, McKnight, Kashef Daniel and Kyron Joseph are in the top ten in their conferences.
