Police have smashed a gang said to have been involved in a spate of robberies in the Mayaro area during the recent Carnival season. Acting on information, a team headed by Sgt Racha of the Eastern Divisional Task Force on Wednesday raided a house at Luis and Sucre streets, Mayaro, where they held a prime suspect and his four accomplices.
The police also found a home-made sawn-off shotgun, two rounds of ammunition and a quantity of marijuana. One of the men held is a 20-year-old who police say has 22 previous convictions for robbery and came out of prison only two weeks ago.
