A Beetham Es­tate teenag­er who was charged with pos­ses­sion of a gun, am­mu­ni­tion and mar­i­jua­na on Car­ni­val Mon­day was de­nied bail and re­mand­ed to the Youth Train­ing Cen­tre un­til to­mor­row.The 17-year-old Ser­vol stu­dent of Main Street, Beetham Gar­dens, was re­fused bail when he reap­peared be­fore Mag­is­trate Melvin Daniel in the Port-of-Spain Fourth Court on Fri­day.

Daniel said he need­ed time to re­flect on the case pre­sent­ed to the court and would rule to­mor­row.The teenag­er was ar­rest­ed on Feb­ru­ary 11 at First Street, Beetham Gar­dens, af­ter he was found with a gun, 14 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion and 54 grammes of mar­i­jua­na.Ap­pear­ing be­fore Chief Mag­is­trate Mar­cia Ay­ers-Cae­sar in the Port-of-Spain Eighth Court on Wednes­day, the teenag­er was re­mand­ed in the ab­sence of a trac­ing.

Ap­peal­ing for rea­son­able bail, at­tor­ney Patrick God­son-Phillip be­came up­set af­ter Sgt Stan­ley Joseph ob­ject­ed to bail and la­belled the teenag­er a mis­guid­ed youth who had a record and was "be­yond the con­trol of his par­ents."In­sist­ing that Joseph af­ford the teen's par­ents the re­spect they de­serve af­ter they came to court and stood along­side their son, God­son-Phillip told the mag­is­trate that the teenag­er was not a flight risk and would at­tend court as or­dered.

Mean­while, Omar­ro Fe­lix, 33, of Laven­tille Road, Febeau Vil­lage, San Juan, will reap­pear in court to­day, af­ter Joseph ob­ject­ed to him be­ing grant­ed bail when po­lice of­fi­cers were un­able to es­tab­lish an ex­act ad­dress for him.Fe­lix, a taxi dri­ver was ar­rest­ed on Feb­ru­ary 12 at Sec­ond Street, San Juan, af­ter he was found with a gun, 11 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion and a quan­ti­ty of mar­i­jua­na. He al­so ap­peared be­fore Daniel on Fri­day.

Ap­peal­ing for bail, Fe­lix's at­tor­ney Richard Clarke-Wills sought to re­as­sure the court that Fe­lix had a fixed place of abode, de­spite three ad­dress­es at San Juan, La Hor­quet­ta and Ari­ma.Or­der­ing that Fe­lix's moth­er at­tend court to­day to con­firm his sto­ry that he of­ten stays at her house, Daniel re­quest­ed of­fi­cers to re­vis­it his moth­er Janet Alexan­der and en­sure her ap­pear­ance in court.
