Goal-shoot Jameela McCarthy claimed a match-high 22 goals from her 28 attempts as she lifted the University of T&T (UTT) to another win in the Alternative Division of the Courts All Sector Netball League, this time against TSTT, 31-29, on Tuesday at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena in Tacarigua.
McCarthy was also the day's top performer. UTT won the encounter after ending each quarter with a lead, but a late surge from TSTT, almost secured the latter an unlikely come-back.
UTT led 8-6 and 18-12, after the first two periods, before it held a 25-20 advantage with one period remaining. TSTT, which remained behind, but outscored UTT 8-7 in the third period, also managed to outdo UTT in the final period, 9-6, but UTT's strong second quarter proved to be the difference between the two teams.
McCarthy was supported by Latisha Pitt, who sank seven goals from 10 attempts.
Sophia Harper-Harrington (17 goals in 38 attempts) and Bunni Grant (12 goals in 23 attempts) were TSTT's leading scorers.
In the day's other match, Police rebounded from a loss in its last match to defeat the University of the Southern Caribbean (USC) 36-30.
Jeselle Navarro carried Police to the comfortable win with 20 goals from 30 attempts. Jenelle Wilson (from 17 attempts) and Giselle Norton Richards (from 12 attempts) scored eight goals each.
In 27 attempts, goal-attack Gabriella Gooding scored 18 goals for USC.
