As expected, top-seeded Breana Stampfli took a step toward a second trophy of the competition when she advanced to the final of the ladies singles segment of the BGTT Tranquillity Open Tennis Tournament, at Tranquillity Tennis Courts, Woodbrook, yesterday.
Stampfli barely broke a sweat as she recorded a straightforward two set victory (6-3, 6-1) over Kezia Korama of Tobago for a berth into Saturday's final.
She will meet Trevine Sellier, who made a classy come-from-behind effort (3-6, 6-3, 6-2) in a victory over Cindy Kabli.
In the men's semifinals, Javier Lewis, a national player who became tournament favourite following two-time champion Yohansey Williams' aggravated injury, was defeated by third-seeded Vaughn Wilson 6-1, 6-4. Wilson, a doubles winner, will also have a shot at another title in the men's final on Saturday when he faces former national champion Richard Chung.
In the day's most gripping encounter, Chung defeated national player Luke De Caires 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The Senior Veterans (65+ years) final was played with Michael Cooper defeating Anthony Smith 6-0, 6-0.
Action continues today with two 45-and-over Veterans Singles semifinal matches. The two winners will meet in the title match, tomorrow. From 4 pm, Kendall Cuffy will face Neil Lingo, while Brian Jackson comes up against Athelstan Phillips.
Both the men and women's finals will be played tomorrow from 3 pm and 4 pm, respectively, as with two veterans semifinals.
