A 23-year-old rob­bery sus­pect re­mained hos­pi­talised yes­ter­day af­ter be­ing shot in the legs while re­sist­ing po­lice who were try­ing to ar­rest him.Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, around 8 pm on Thurs­day, two de­tec­tives of the West­ern Di­vi­sion Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tion De­part­ment (CID) fol­lowed the sus­pect to the Movi­eTowne En­ter­tain­ment Cen­tre at In­vad­er's Bay, Port-of-Spain.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said the po­lice tried to ar­rest the man, from Bagatelle Road, Diego Mar­tin, while he was walk­ing through the car park of the com­plex.The sus­pect re­port­ed­ly be­gan to strug­gle with them and at­tempt­ed to grab a gun from one of the po­lice­men.The oth­er in­ter­vened, shoot­ing the sus­pect in both legs. The po­lice were not in­jured in the in­ci­dent and the man was de­tained. He re­mained ward­ed in sta­ble con­di­tion at Ward 23 of the Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal up to late yes­ter­day.

Po­lice said he would be kept un­der po­lice guard and is ex­pect­ed to be charged with re­sist­ing ar­rest.The sus­pect is al­so ex­pect­ed to be put on iden­ti­fi­ca­tion pa­rades in re­la­tion to a spate of re­cent rob­beries in west Trinidad.He is said to be well known to the po­lice and has pre­vi­ous con­vic­tions for rob­bery of­fences.
