A 23-year-old robbery suspect remained hospitalised yesterday after being shot in the legs while resisting police who were trying to arrest him.According to reports, around 8 pm on Thursday, two detectives of the Western Division Criminal Investigation Department (CID) followed the suspect to the MovieTowne Entertainment Centre at Invader's Bay, Port-of-Spain.
Investigators said the police tried to arrest the man, from Bagatelle Road, Diego Martin, while he was walking through the car park of the complex.The suspect reportedly began to struggle with them and attempted to grab a gun from one of the policemen.The other intervened, shooting the suspect in both legs. The police were not injured in the incident and the man was detained. He remained warded in stable condition at Ward 23 of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital up to late yesterday.
Police said he would be kept under police guard and is expected to be charged with resisting arrest.The suspect is also expected to be put on identification parades in relation to a spate of recent robberies in west Trinidad.He is said to be well known to the police and has previous convictions for robbery offences.
