Today, history will be made in Caribbean basketball as the single largest prize so far, $250,000, will be handed to the winner of the third place play-off between Caledonia and La Romaine in the Hoop of Life Community Basketball League, at Paradise Heights, Morvant, from 7 pm.
La Romaine currently holds the lead in the two-part series after dropping Caledonia 8977 (12 points) in front of some 400 supporters at home on Wednesday. As a result, Caledonia will be forced to up the ante and go all out in search for a win by no less than 13 points.
Caledonia is known to be a difficult team to beat at home, but both La Romaine's players and fans feel confident that the community can walk away victors with talents in the likes of captain Derrick Boxhill and Adrian Joseph, who scored 36 and 18 points, respectively, in the opening match.
Caledonia's under-21 star Kyeon Joseph was the second highest scorer with 19 points, while the captain Wilt Vincent and his brother Wesley Vincent ended with 16 and 14 points, respectively.
Wednesday's match see-sawed as Caledonia held a two-point advantage (2321) before being snubbed by the significant deficit.Tonight, however, will see players from either team exert all energies for the coveted third place prize. And, while tonight's match is in itself history-making, it remains a fraction of the $1 million grand prize up for the winner of the three-part series between Laventille and Marabella. The runner-up will take home $500,000.
