Depending on the outcome of results last night, the in form Angus Eve-coached North East Stars will be looking to regain hold on third spot when it faces Police in the first match of a double-header at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, from 5 pm.
The Sangre Grande-based Stars currently has 27 points from 16 matches in the Digicel T&T Pro League following wins over the top two teams on the table leaders Defence Force and second-placed, recent T&T Football Federation FA Trophy winners for a second straight year Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA.
However, last night both Defence Force and Caledonia AIA faced off at Macoya while defending champions DirecTV W Connection, fourth with 26 points, had a chance to surpass Stars with victory over St Ann's Rangers in the first match at Macoya, last night.
In today's encounter, Stars, which beat Police 2-1 in the second round after a 1-1 draw in round one, will no doubt be banking on the in form Cornell Glen to secure all three points.Glen, who has been included in the Soca Warriors squad for two international friendlies away to Belize on Friday and Peru, has netted in his last three Pro League matches as well as in his club's two previous showdowns with Police to carry his season tally to 14, one behind top scorer Devorn Jorsling of Defence Force.
Police, on the other hand, sixth with 14 points, enters the match loser of its last encounter 2-4 against Central FC a week ago and will go into action tonight, without the suspended Anton Hutchinson.
Two hours later at Macoya, the Central FC "Sharks" face T&T in what is expected to be an interesting encounter as well. Both teams have met twice this season in the league with Central winning the first match 2-1 while the other ended in a 1-1 draw.
