T&T's Ayanna McClean was recently promoted to the Outdoor Promising List Grade I of the International Hockey Federation (FIH). The list comprises umpires who, at their recent tournaments, have shown the potential to officiate at FIH Grade 1 level.
The former national hockey player received news of her promotion following the Pan American Hockey Federation's South American Championships last month and she was recently part of the umpires list at the FIH World League Round II competition which was held in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.
McClean, who holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration, is a past pupil of South East Port-of-Spain Secondary School. She obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Economics from Hofstra University in the USA.
She now resides in Long Island, New York, and has been a member of Ventures Hockey Club, the oldest women's club in Trinidad and Tobago, for the past 16 years. Ventures celebrated its 85th anniversary last year.
McClean also captained South-East Port-of-Spain Secondary School, Ventures Under-21 and Hofstra University teams to championship titles.The six-foot defender was on the Dean's List for academics for four years whilst attending Hofstra on a hockey scholarship.
A Market Development Manager with Coca Cola International, she is the daughter of retired FIH Grade I umpire Cherill McClean.As a national player she represented T&T at the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo in 2004 and attained her FIH Umpire's Badge following the Junior Pan American Games in Puerto Rico in 2005.
She was appointed as a neutral umpire at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010.T&T Hockey Board (TTHB) congratulated McClean on her new listing and wishes her continued success in her umpiring career.
