T&T's Ayan­na Mc­Clean was re­cent­ly pro­mot­ed to the Out­door Promis­ing List Grade I of the In­ter­na­tion­al Hock­ey Fed­er­a­tion (FIH). The list com­pris­es um­pires who, at their re­cent tour­na­ments, have shown the po­ten­tial to of­fi­ci­ate at FIH Grade 1 lev­el.

The for­mer na­tion­al hock­ey play­er re­ceived news of her pro­mo­tion fol­low­ing the Pan Amer­i­can Hock­ey Fed­er­a­tion's South Amer­i­can Cham­pi­onships last month and she was re­cent­ly part of the um­pires list at the FIH World League Round II com­pe­ti­tion which was held in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.

Mc­Clean, who holds a Mas­ter's De­gree in Busi­ness Ad­min­is­tra­tion, is a past pupil of South East Port-of-Spain Sec­ondary School. She ob­tained a Bach­e­lor's De­gree in Busi­ness Ad­min­is­tra­tion and Eco­nom­ics from Hof­s­tra Uni­ver­si­ty in the USA.

She now re­sides in Long Is­land, New York, and has been a mem­ber of Ven­tures Hock­ey Club, the old­est women's club in Trinidad and To­ba­go, for the past 16 years. Ven­tures cel­e­brat­ed its 85th an­niver­sary last year.

Mc­Clean al­so cap­tained South-East Port-of-Spain Sec­ondary School, Ven­tures Un­der-21 and Hof­s­tra Uni­ver­si­ty teams to cham­pi­onship ti­tles.The six-foot de­fend­er was on the Dean's List for aca­d­e­mics for four years whilst at­tend­ing Hof­s­tra on a hock­ey schol­ar­ship.

A Mar­ket De­vel­op­ment Man­ag­er with Co­ca Co­la In­ter­na­tion­al, she is the daugh­ter of re­tired FIH Grade I um­pire Cher­ill Mc­Clean.As a na­tion­al play­er she rep­re­sent­ed T&T at the Pan Amer­i­can Games in San­to Domin­go in 2004 and at­tained her FIH Um­pire's Badge fol­low­ing the Ju­nior Pan Amer­i­can Games in Puer­to Ri­co in 2005.

She was ap­point­ed as a neu­tral um­pire at the in­au­gur­al Youth Olympic Games in Sin­ga­pore in 2010.T&T Hock­ey Board (TTHB) con­grat­u­lat­ed Mc­Clean on her new list­ing and wish­es her con­tin­ued suc­cess in her um­pir­ing ca­reer.
