The Min­istry of Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment dis­trib­uted emer­gency equip­ment to five re­gion­al cor­po­ra­tion dis­as­ter units on Wednes­day.The min­istry along with Trin­tac pre­sent­ed skid steel loader ve­hi­cles to the San­gre Grande, Diego Mar­tin, San Juan/Laven­tille, Ma­yaro/Rio Claro and Siparia Re­gion­al Cor­po­ra­tions.A re­lease from the min­istry de­scribed the ve­hi­cles as small­er ver­sions of ex­ca­va­tors."Its size al­lows it ti go in­to dis­as­ter af­fect­ed ar­eas that a full sized ex­ca­va­tor may not be able to reach.

"In a flood sit­u­a­tion, the loader is able to go in­to nar­row wa­ter­cours­es and even homes, to re­move silt and sludge."The re­lease said the ve­hi­cle came with 10 to 12 at­tach­ments which al­lowed it to do a va­ri­ety of work.Four oth­er cor­po­ra­tions are ex­pect­ed to re­ceive these load­ers with­in two years.

The re­lease said the skid steer load­ers were deemed to be one of three crit­i­cal items that all 14 cor­po­ra­tions need­ed to have.The oth­er two items were mul­ti­pur­pose units and portable field hos­pi­tals.
