Remember those words. Captain Dinesh Ramdhin was emphatic that changes had to be made to the T&T batting line-up after the humiliating defeat to Barbados in the regional four-day competition. Well, the only change I have seen is in the colour of the uniforms. What a disgrace! T&T beaten by CCC in the semi-finals of the Regional Super50 Tournament. Ooops, let me correct myself, not only beaten, but destroyed.
To hear captain, manager, and selectors admit that there is a problem with the batting and yet see the same faces over and over again has to be the joke of the year.Did they expect this team to bat 50 overs when they failed to do so in both innings against Barbados? They behaved as there is such a great difference between the four-day game and the one-day game. Both versions require batsmen to be mentally and technically sound.
From recent performances it is quite clear that this squad of players has lost the will to fight, or maybe the meager financial incentives offered at this level does not inspire excellence. The advent of the T-20 game and its huge financial rewards has rendered national pride non existent. The players don't pick themselves. The selectors must do the honourable thing and resign. Should they fail to do so the Trinidad Cricket Board should fire them with immediate effect, which might just be wishful thinking.
The time has come to send this bunch of voopers–selectors and players–packing. Remember cricket board, October will be upon us sooner than you think and the decisions you make or don't make will determine your future.
