Pow­er­gen cap­tain Gre­go­ry Ma­habir blast­ed an even hun­dred yes­ter­day to guide the lead­ers of the Na­tion­al Crick­et League Pre­mier Di­vi­sion in­to a strong po­si­tion against Comets at the end of day one at Syne Vil­lage, Pe­nal.

Bat­ting first, Ma­habir struck eleven fours in his 132 ball knock to sin­gle hand­ed­ly take Pow­er­gen to 207 in their first in­nings. Na­tion­al bats­man Evin Lewis pitched in with 29. The best bowlers for Comets were Richard Kel­ly (4/55) and An­cil Bha­gan (4/60), grab­bing four wick­ets apiece.

By the close of play, Comets were strug­gling on 97/7, still 110 runs be­hind. Spin bowler Kavesh Kan­tas­ingh was the pick of the bowlers, snatch­ing 3/43. V. Ma­haraj's un­beat­en 28 and Kier­an Joseph's 19 of­fered some re­sis­tance for Comets.

Bat­ting first, Clarke Road post­ed 257/8 de­clared be­hind 64 from guyanese Ryan Ram­dass. Shaz­an Bab­wah and na­tion­al bats­man Nicholas Pooran both con­tributed 39 to the to­tal. De­on Fer­ri­er (2/49) took two wick­ets for Aranguez.

In re­ply, Aranguez were 50/4 at stumps. Jonathan Cabralis scored 16, while Clevon Kallawan took 2/13 to leave Aranguez with alot of work to do to stay alive.
