Arima Hawks and the University of T&T maintained their respective 100 per cent winning records in the T&T Table Tennis Association First Division League with similar 4-0 victories over Oxford and D'Abadie Youths in the latest round of matches.
Hawks, winners of their opening round tie against Gladiators also by a 4-0 margin, was again ruthless in their demolition of visitors Oxford at the Arima West Government Primary School on Tuesday night.
Leading the way for the host were five-time national singles champion Reeza Burke and former multiple-national and two-time Caribbean champion Lionel Darceuil who combined for three wins.
Darceuil was first into action and swept past Narace Jodhan 11-3, 11-9, 11-8 for a 1-0 lead in the best-of-six match tie while Dave Williams overwhelmed Kirk Mohammed 11-4, 11-4, 2-11, 13-11 to make it 2-0.
Burke, who is also the president of the local association, defeated Anthony Laquis 11-6, 11-9, 11-6 before he paired with Darceuil to stop Mohammed and Laquis 11-7, 11-3, 14-12 and seal the 4-0 triumph.
UTT and D'Abadie, which trounced Solo Crusaders 4-0 in its first match of the league were both hopeful of improving to 2-0, but in the end, the Humphreys brothers Curtis and Alaric along with Kenwin Small proved too much for their D'Abadie rivals.
Curtis, the reigning national men's singles title holder was taken to five sets by former national champion Michael Nanton before he secured an 11-6, 6-11, 10-12, 11-6, 11-8 victory to put his team against his former club.
The younger Humphreys, Alaric, extended the advantage to 2-0 via his 11-9, 11-7, 11-9 beating of Everton Sorzano while Small came from behind to beat Declan John 7-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-8 before the brothers battled past Nanton and John 12-10, 11-2, 11-9.
