After six days, the joint police/army search for missing Princes Town mother Bissoondaye Geeta Seenath has been called off. However, relatives, volunteers and friends are continuing the search for the 46-year-old woman who went missing on Saturday during a hike to Rio Seco Falls, Matura. She was among 40 people on an excursion to Salybia beach. She and 13 others were on the hike to the nearby falls when she went missing.
Civil Military Affairs officer of the Defence Force Major Al Alexander confirmed that the soldiers involved in the search for Seenath had been recalled to barracks. He said: "We have exhausted searching all the areas that she could have gone from the trail. Right now we are waiting on any new leads from the police. The police will contact us."Alexander said soldiers and army personnel searched the entire area where Seenath could have possibly wandered off."We have done that on more than one occasion and we found nothing...We are certain that she is not there," he said.
He said a thorough search was done along the trail leading to the falls and all trails that Seenath could have passed, but no trace of her was found. So, Alexander said, the army would not be searching further unless there was a new lead or new information."I would like to hope that she is still alive," he said."There is no indication that anything untoward happened to her, like she was injured or something like that."
Yesterday, Coast Guard officers joined in, combing Salybia beach and the mouth of the river for Seenath. Terry Rondon, councillor for Toco/Fishing Pond, who was among the volunteers searching for Seenath since she went missing on Saturday, asked for members of the public with information on her whereabouts to come forward. He said: "I am not giving up on finding her. We are not calling off the search for her."However, he admitted the feeling among villagers was that Seenath is not in the area where they were searching."If she is hearing us, seeing us, I would beg her to call and let us know," Rondon said. "We are out there every day and it is not easy."The police and the army out there, please, I am treating this as if it is my family missing."If she is not there, please call me, contact us. It is not easy out there. It have mapipire in that area."Contacted for comment yesterday, Seenath's daughter Roshnie, 19, said she was at the Matura Police Station and was unable to speak.Sgt Christopher Fuentes is heading the investigation.
