Filmmaker Andre Johnson's Sweet TnT will be screened at the Belize International Film Festival (BIFF) in July. This is the fourth festival for the film which has also been screened at the Antigua International Film Festival, the Portobello Film Festival, and was part of the Dark Tales from Paradise series of the T&T Film Festival. The film is also being considered for the Caribbean Tales Film Festival in Toronto later this year, according to Johnson. His film Caged Bird was featured at Caribbean Tales in 2009.In a telephone interview Johnson said he was excited about the film's official selection for BIFF.
He considers Sweet TnT's inclusion in the festival an achievement for both himself and T&T as the festival showcases films from around the world.Sweet TnT tells the story of Anton, who follows a dangerous path to rescue his British girlfriend Sherry. Anton believes Sherry was kidnapped after she went missing on Carnival Tuesday. However, he comes to a shocking discovery when Sherry is found alive and unharmed. The film gets its title from a metaphor, Johnson said."It describes the female protagonist. TNT is the acronym for dynamite and then Sweet TnT is also Trinbago."
The film deals with stereotypes and prejudice, but Johnson said it is not didactic."Viewers always take away whatever morality or whatever perception they get and I just try to lay it out before the viewers as candid as possible," he said.Johnson has directed two short dramas and worked on numerous productions including documentaries for the T&T Red Cross and Catholic Media Services. He is also an actor who has been featured in US television shows such as Law & Order, Sex in the City and ER. In film, Johnson has appeared in the movies Shaft and Two Weeks Notice.
