Elise Olton scored a double as defending champions Shandy Carib Magnolias held off Harvard Maritime Checkers 3-2 for a third straight win the the T&T Hockey Board Indoor Championship Women's Open Division at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo on Wednesday night.
Former national standout Stacey Siu Butt fired Magnolias ahead in the fifth minute and three minutes later Olton doubled her team's lead which it took into the half.
Jeannette Clarke cut the lead in half for Checkers in the 27th minute butt Olton netted another in the 34th for a 3-1 advantage before national defender Kwylan Jagassar set up an interesting final five minutes with a second for Checkers, a few seconds later.
In the end, Magnolias managed to hang on for the win, carrying its points tally to maximum nine, three more than Paragon which has also played three matches.
Ventures is third with three points from a win and a loss while Checkers and Notre Dame, are without a point after two matches.
However, Petrotrin had winning streak halted at three matches after it came from behind three times in a 3-3 draw with Queen's Park in the Men's Open Division.
As early as the third minute Jordan Reynos fired the Parkites ahead but nine minutes later Solomon Eccles drew the Oilmen level, only for Dominic Young (13th) to restore Queen's Park lead at 2-1 a minute later.
But the Oilmen responded again, this time through Brian Garcia a minute before the half to leave both clubs level at 2-2.
With four minutes left in the match, Kadeem Fortune scored what seemed a likely decider for the Parkites, but with a minute left in the match, Dwain Quan Chan rescued the Oilmen by earning his team a 3-3 draw to stay top with ten points from four matches, and within a point of cementing a semifinal spot as a top four finisher in the seven-team round-robin table.
The Parkites improved to seven points from three matches, one more than Paragon and Notre Dame while Defence Force kept its qualification hopes alive via a 10-4 hammering of Fatima led by hat-tricks from Marcus James, Shane Legerton and veteran Nicholas Wren.
Jordan Vieira also scored three for Fatima, in the loss, its third from as many outings.
