National Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Anthony "Smokey" Sutherland will square up against American Dietter Navarro on Saturday night in the main event of Cuff 06 (Caribbean Ultimate Fist Fighting) at the Jean Pierre Complex, Port of Spain. The Sutherland-Navarro fight will be the last of five fights on the night. In each of the five fights, a T&T athlete will be on show, while fighters from USA, Dominican Republic and Jamaica will make up the rest of the cast.Talking at the event's media launch yesterday at the Carib Brewery Compound, Champs Fleurs, promoter Adam Chin Leung said he was excited about Cuff's sixth major event."This event will mark our 6th major event, and we are really proud to align ourselves with some fighting schools in the states," Chin Leung said.
Shane Ramjit, marketing manager for Stag, which is the event's title sponsor, also expressed his enthusiasm about the event."Cuff 06 is gearing up to be a very exciting event, as we have for the first time, a T&T contendor in each one of the five fights carded for the night," he said.Stag is once more proud to be the title sponsor for this Saturday's fight card and we look forward to a night of good sportmanship, strong competition and extreme talent being displayed."Chin Leung is also confident that the sport in T&T has a future through Cuff.He said: "As the brand grows, you will see better fighters, more well known fighters coming down (to T&T)."We have a lot of good local boys, like Dwayne Hinds, who is probably the most popular MMA fighter in T&T right now, and hopefully a Cuff fighter at some point will be on one of the big shows like the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), and we can say that this is one of our guys."
