Reign­ing cham­pi­ons Ker­shorn Wal­cott, Nicholas Lan­deau and Machel Ce­de­nio have been named in 45-mem­ber na­tion­al con­tin­gent an­nounced yes­ter­day by the Na­tion­al As­so­ci­a­tion of Ath­let­ic Ad­min­is­tra­tion (NAAA) for this year's Carif­ta Games in Hamil­ton, Bermu­da, from April 9 to 11. Wal­cott, the two time de­fend­ing boys un­der 20 javelin gold medal­list, will bid for a third gold and have a chance to im­prove on his game record of 72.04m set in tak­ing the ti­tle at the 2011 Games in Mon­tego Bay, Ja­maica. The To­co born ath­lete, who com­petes for Re­birth, made the qual­i­fy­ing stan­dard at last week­end Carif­ta tri­als throw­ing the javelin out to 67.12m over the 54.00 stan­dard. Wal­cott is joined by Akim Phillips (Zenith) who earned his sec­ond Carif­ta pick af­ter fin­ished sec­ond with 56.55. The duo is among 18 un­der 20 boys.

Last year's dou­ble cham­pi­ons Machel Ce­de­nio (Quan­tum) and Nicholas Lan­deau (Air Bon Son­ics) have al­so been in­clud­ed. Com­pet­ing in his first year in the un­der 20 cat­e­go­ry Ce­de­nio won the 400m at the tri­als in 47.00, un­der the 47.80 stan­dard. The 2011 boys un­der 17 200/400 gold medal­list was al­so named in the 4X400 re­lay pool. Lan­deau (2011 boys un­der 17 1500/3000 cham­pi­on) made the qual­i­fy­ing mark in the boy un­der 20 1500m clock­ing 4:01:65 to fin­ish be­hind Mark Lon­don (Zenith) who won in 3:59:69 as both clocked per­son­al best times. Lon­don is the 2010 boys un­der 17 1500 and 3000 win­ners. Jereem Richards (Quan­tum) booked his spot in the 200m with a per­son­al best of 21.00.

Jonathan Far­in­ha (Abi­lene Wild­cats) and Nicholas Dou­glas (Zenith) head the boys un­der 17 list. Far­in­ha sound­ed a warn­ing to his Caribbean com­peti­tors at the tri­als win­ning the 200 in 21.32 to fol­low up on his 21.30 clock one week ear­li­er at the South­ern Games heats. Dou­glas was sec­ond at the tri­als in 21.85 as the two dipped be­low the 22.00. The triple Carif­ta medal­list won the 100m in 10.80 (stan­dard-10.90). An­oth­er mul­ti­ple Carif­ta medal win­ner Kene­jah Williams (To­ba­go Fal­cons) booked his spot in the shot and dis­cus and will be go­ing to im­prove on his sil­ver (dis­cus) and bronze (dis­cus) from last year. Ker­ne­sha Spann (Neon Track­ers) is among the top fe­male qual­i­fiers. The 2010 Carif­ta girls un­der 17 300m hur­dles cham­pi­on con­firmed her place on the team win­ning the girls un­der 20 400 and 400m hur­dles with runs of 54.73 and 1:00:15 re­spec­tive­ly. An­oth­er Carif­ta gold medal­list Shaunna Downey (Burn­ley) has been named in the girls un­der 20 dis­cus af­ter top­ping the tri­als with 41.23 ahead of club­mate Marielle Pierre (41.10), the 2011 Carif­ta girls un­der 17 bronze medal­list.
