An 18-year-old Gasparillo youth who went missing four days after he reportedly robbed a clothes store was found dead in Siparia on Friday night. Police believe Darius "Nunky" Bailey was murdered as his hands and feet were bound with plastic, while his body appeared to be in a state of decomposition with the lower jaw missing. Bailey, of Guaracara Street, was last seen alive by his family last Monday.
Around 5.30 pm an anonymous caller led police to the body that was lying 100 feet off a dirt track at Murray Trace. At his home yesterday, his sister Trudy said Bailey, the youngest of eight siblings, was misled by a man who recently moved into the area. "He did not listen to his friends when they tell him not to lime with this person (name called). Is the first time he ever do anything like a robbery," she said.
Trudy said a surveillance camera at the store in San Fernando two Thursdays ago recorded the incident and her brother was the only one who showed his face. She said on Monday he left home to lime with his friends, but was seen leaving the area with the man he was warned to stay away from. Bailey's relatives suspect acid was thrown on his face.
His father Michael said when he went to identify his son's body he had no face. "All it had where his face suppose to be is teeth attached to the gum. He had no jaw," he said. The family is calling for justice. Police held two people for questioning but have since released one. Cpl Cori is investigating. Meanwhile, police found human skeletal remains along M2 Ring Road in Debe on Friday night. The remains have been sent to the Forensic Science Centre in Port-of-Spain. Investigations are continuing.
