An Arouca man was stabbed to death at a bar near his home early yesterday morning. Wesley Morrison, 39, of Lopinot Road, was arguing with a man outside a bar on the Eastern Main Road, Arouca, at around 3 am. The argument soon became physical with the suspect pulling out a knife and stabbing Morrison, a labourer with the Unemployment Relief Programme, several times in the neck and upper body.
Morrison ran through a track after the attack. Police, who followed a trail of blood, later found him lying in a patch of grass on a track off Back Street, Lopinot Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said that Morrison was a regular patron of the bar. Up to late yesterday, the suspect remained at large.
None of the eyewitnesses were able to give a proper description of Morrison's attacker. The body was taken to the Forensic Sciences Centre, St James, where a post-mortem will be conducted after the Easter weekend. Inspectors Nelson, Lawrence and Dale Ablack visited the scene. Sgt Ganga Singh, of the Arouca Police Station, is continuing investigations.
