Caledonia Clippers recorded their second consecutive win in the early stages of the North Zone Basketball Commission First Division when they edged Straker Nets 79-76, at the Jean Pierre Complex, Wrightson Road, on Thursday evening. The win came just over a week following their 80-73 success over Police, which shows initial signs of the team being one of the favourites to take the title. This time, however, captain Kerwin Lares did not lead the team but the giant structure of centre Miguel Williams was on top of the game finishing on 20 points, in a classy display from the Clippers team. Caledonia Clippers were down 46-34 at half time but improved drastically to come back to seal the two points.
Williams was followed by Akil Painter who took 17 points. Straker Nets' Mario Davis and Sadiki Guerra ended with 16 and 14 points, respectively. In the Second Division, Straker Nets were again in action, and recorded a 73-58 victory over Blink Trailblazers, to win their second match in succession in the division. Jamal Clarke bagged 16 points, followed by Dwayne Ottley who took 13 points. Talented forward Juvani Andrews led Trailblazers with 16 points. Action continued at the Jean Pierre Complex, last evening with a First Division, Second Division and a Women's Division match. Tomorrow (Tuesday), Second Division Raptors will take on Veterans from 6.30 pm, followed by a First Division clash between reigning champions and title favourites Defence Force and San Juan Warriors at 8 pm. Both matches will be contested at the same venue.
