Coach of the Queen's Park Crick­et Club David Fur­longe has sin­gled out team­work as one of the main fac­tors in his team's suc­cess so far this sea­son as they copped their sec­ond ti­tle of the sea­son Sun­day walk­ing away with the Pre­mier League ti­tle. With the 2012 Sun­day League 50-Overs sil­ver­ware al­ready in the tro­phy cab­i­net, the Parkites, who won an un­prece­dent­ed triple crown last sea­son, need on­ly to suc­cess­ful­ly de­fend their T20 Fes­ti­val ti­tle next week to re­peat their dom­i­nance over their ri­vals. Fur­longe said Queen's Park WAs ded­i­cat­ing the 2012 sea­son to their for­mer Nevis-born bats­man Runako Mor­ton who trag­i­cal­ly died in a sin­gle ve­hi­cle ac­ci­dent ear­li­er this year and he was quite sat­is­fied in the achieve­ments of the club so far.

He said the club had to come to terms with the loss of Mor­ton and the un­avail­abil­i­ty of sev­er­al top play­ers who were on na­tion­al and in­ter­na­tion­al du­ty which cre­at­ed the op­por­tu­ni­ty for the re­serve play­ers to make a sol­id con­tri­bu­tion. "An­oth­er thing is that we played more as a team this year. It was a team ef­fort. No­tably we have not had a bats­man mak­ing a hun­dred runs, yet we are on top of the league ta­ble," said Fur­longe. Af­ter win­ning the Pre­mier­ship for the sec­ond suc­ces­sive year on Sun­day, the Parkites have now set their eyes on the T20 Fes­ti­val which starts next week at Guaracara Park in Pointe-a-Pierre which they al­so in­tend to re­tain for an­oth­er clean sweep of the Pre­mier­ship ti­tles at stake.

"We are con­fi­dent of do­ing well in the tour­na­ment and we are prac­tis­ing for it and have start­ed train­ing al­ready. There are al­so a few prac­tice match­es planned for us at night here at the Oval next week," said Fur­longe. The coach had spe­cial praise for the club's sol­id per­for­mance to To­bag­on­ian Lin­coln Roberts who he said stepped in­to the breach left by Mor­ton. Roberts hit a match-win­ning cen­tu­ry at the top of the or­der to se­cure the Sun­day League Tro­phy in the fi­nal against T&TEC Sports un­der lights at Guaracara Park, ear­li­er this sea­son. "Oth­er good con­tri­bu­tions came from cap­tain Justin Guillen, Akeal Ho­sein, young­ster Clar­ry Pierre and An­tho­ny Bal­go­b­in who I think is one of the bet­ter keep­ers in the coun­try right now and his bat­ting has cer­tain­ly im­proved this year," said Fur­longe.
