Cap­tain Lennox Fran­cis will lead T&T's six-mem­ber team at the Davis Cup Amer­i­c­as ten­nis tour­na­ment Group III Com­pe­ti­tion, which serves off in To­ba­go to­mor­row. Team T&T com­pris­ing Fran­cis, Yohansey Williams, Liam Gomez, Vaughn Wil­son, Luke de Caires, and al­ter­nate Seve Day, will have their work cut out for them when they come up against nine oth­er coun­tries at the Shaw Park Ten­nis Fa­cil­i­ty in To­ba­go. This is the first time To­ba­go will be host­ing a qual­i­fy­ing round of the Davis Cup and from June 18-23. Fans trav­el­ling to To­ba­go will see the best of T&T in ac­tion against Aru­ba, Ba­hamas, Cos­ta Ri­ca, Guatemala, Haiti, Hon­duras, Ja­maica, Pana­ma and US Vir­gin Is­lands. Blink bmo­bile is the of­fi­cial spon­sor of the Davis Cup team, as well as one of the four ma­jor spon­sors for the event.

Dun­stan De Noon, coach of the na­tion­al un­der-18 ten­nis team and Co­or­di­na­tor for the Group III com­pe­ti­tion, is con­fi­dent about T&T's chances. He said the team re­cent­ly com­pet­ed cred­itably against Bar­ba­dos and that was a good warm up for the com­pe­ti­tion. For the To­ba­go leg of the com­pe­ti­tion, the ten coun­tries will be di­vid­ed in­to two groups for round-robin match­es. The top na­tion in each pool will then play off against the run­ner-up in an­oth­er pool. On­ly the top two coun­tries will qual­i­fy for pro­mo­tion to the Amer­i­c­as Zone Group II for 2013.
