Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is expected to chair her second Cabinet meeting in Tobago in less than two months next week Thursday. Persad-Bissessar and members of her Cabinet met in Tobago on May 31. She also held a retreat of her MPs later that day. The Prime Minister opened the Magdalena Resort Hotel on June 1 and also addressed a second anniversary rally of the People's Partnership on June 2. It was during that rally that PP member party, the Tobago Organisation of the People launched its campaign for the 2013 THA elections.
Persad-Bissessar and her Cabinet will be in Tobago for three days as the Cabinet goes on retreat on Friday and a Parliament workshop on Saturday. Opposition MPs are also expected to participate in the workshop, which will be addressed by the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley. It is being organised by the Parliament and the National Authorising Officer, Minister of Planning and Sustainable Development and the Delegation of the European Union.
A release issued by the Parliament yesterday said the initiative seeks to strengthen the functioning of the Parliament in the areas of scrutiny and implementation of the budget and the administration of government departments. The workshop takes place at Magdalena Beach Resort, Lowlands. Major decisions affecting the people of Tobago directly are expected to be announced after the Cabinet meeting, sources have said.
