Police exercises in Tunapuna and Biche between Tuesday and yesterday led to 13 people being arrested, the seizure of a gun, and quantities of ammunition and marijuana. Around 7.30 pm on Tuesday, officers of the Tunapuna CID including Insp Seecharan, Sgt Sinanan, Cpl Roopchan and PC Pereira were on mobile patrol when they intercepted a Nissan AD Wagon with two occupants along Caura Royal Road, El Dorado.
After a search, police arrested a 40-year old man from El Dorado and a 23-year old woman of Santa Cruz after they recovered a .357 Taurus revolver in the car. Up to yesterday, the suspects remained in custody at the Tunapuna station. Between 3 am and 8 am on Wednesday, police led by ASP Neville Sankar, including Insps Paul and Rampersad, and Sgts Lutchman and Sookdeo, executed three search warrants in the Biche area and arrested 13 people for possession of marijuana and ammunition.
Ten people were arrested after they were found with three kilos of marijuana, while three others were arrested for possession of two 12-gauge cartridges. The 13 suspects are expected to appear in court today.
