Olympic Gold medal­list Keshorn Wal­cott will get an­oth­er dream come true when he bowls to for­mer West In­dies cap­tain Bri­an Lara to open the sec­ond day's play of the Twen­ty20 for 50 Crick­et Fes­ti­val at the Queen's Park Oval on Sat­ur­day. This was re­vealed via a state­ment is­sued to the me­dia yes­ter­day. Wal­cott, who won the gold medal in the Men's Javelin event at the Lon­don Olympic Games ear­li­er this month, had once hoped to be a star crick­eter like Lara but re­alised his tal­ent in the field event which has brought him much suc­cess. The javelin throw­er will be one of sev­er­al sport­ing icons in­volved in the three-day fes­ti­val, along with leg­endary West In­dies all­rounder Sir Garfield Sobers and for­mer So­ca War­riors cap­tain Dwight Yorke. Sobers will serve as the am­bas­sador and man­ag­er for the Bri­an Lara All Star Team, and will be present at all of the match­es, as will Yorke in his ca­pac­i­ty as sports am­bas­sador. The tour­na­ment, which is be­ing held to com­mem­o­rate the coun­try's 50th An­niver­sary of In­de­pen­dence, will al­so in­clude a Daren Gan­ga All Star XI as well as the T&T and Ja­maican na­tion­al teams.

For­mer South African play­ers Her­schelle Gibbs, Makhaya Nti­ni, Justin Kemp and Loots Bosman along with West In­dies play­ers Fi­del Ed­wards, Dwayne Smith, As­sad Fu­dadin and Sunil Nar­ine have all been con­firmed for the two All Star Teams with the full line ups ex­pect­ed to be an­nounced lat­er this week. The Red Force has been in in­tense train­ing over the last cou­ple months and views the tour­na­ment as an in­te­gral part of its prepa­ra­tion for the up­com­ing Cham­pi­ons League Twen­ty20 in Oc­to­ber. While cen­tered around crick­et, the Twen­ty20 for 50 is a cel­e­bra­tion of the coun­try's her­itage in sport and cul­ture. In ad­di­tion, top lo­cal artistes will per­form be­tween match­es to en­ter­tain pa­trons, while the Sport Com­pa­ny of T&T will ho­n­our 50 na­tion­als who have con­tributed to the de­vel­op­ment of sport. Pa­trons may con­tin­ue to pur­chase tick­ets, val­ued at $100, at var­i­ous Sports and Games lo­ca­tions and at the Queens Park Oval tick­et of­fice.
