Leader of the Op­po­si­tion Dr Kei­th Row­ley yes­ter­day re­newed his call for At­tor­ney Gen­er­al Anand Ram­lo­gan and Jus­tice Min­is­ter Her­bert Vol­ney to re­sign or be fired. He first is­sued that call dur­ing a news con­fer­ence on Tues­day and re­newed it dur­ing his sec­ond news brief­ing yes­ter­day at his Charles Street, Port-of-Spain, of­fice.

Row­ley said Ram­lo­gan, in his Sen­ate con­tri­bu­tion to the de­bate on the Ad­min­is­tra­tion of Jus­tice (In­dictable Pro­ceed­ings) (Amend­ment) Bill 2012, spoke about spe­cif­ic sit­u­a­tions, which he should not have done. Row­ley said by mak­ing ref­er­ence to spe­cif­ic mat­ters in­volv­ing spe­cif­ic peo­ple be­fore the court, Ram­lo­gan had giv­en those in­di­vid­u­als ev­i­dence to be suc­cess­ful in ex­pect­ed chal­lenges against the State in due course.

Row­ley said Op­po­si­tion mem­bers were in­struct­ed not to men­tion spe­cif­ic sit­u­a­tions in their con­tri­bu­tions, but Ram­lo­gan "made spe­cif­ic ref­er­ence in de­tail to the mat­ters re­lat­ing to the Pi­ar­co case." He said the AG went fur­ther by putting on "the par­lia­men­tary records, in his own words, say­ing what the Par­lia­ment is seek­ing to do is to stop that par­tic­u­lar mat­ter." "The At­tor­ney Gen­er­al's words will be their best de­fence," Row­ley added.

"We have no con­fi­dence that the At­tor­ney Gen­er­al is now in a po­si­tion to ar­gue (the le­gal chal­lenges) be­cause he has a con­flict of in­ter­est in the mat­ter." Row­ley said the Gov­ern­ment failed to say why it had the leg­is­la­tion pro­claimed and ef­fect­ed on Au­gust 31.
