The T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) will be hosting a special event to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Independence and at this event will be honouring fifty top cricketers. This event will be held tomorrow at the Ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Wrightson Road, Port of Spain and is being done with the blessings of the Ministry of Planning and Sustainable Development. According to executive member of the TTCB, Baldath Mahabir: "Support is also being given by the Sport Company of T&T Ltd and the National Gas Company of T&T Ltd. The guest list is headed by the patron of the organisation, President George Maxwell Richards, and the Honourable Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar among other dignitaries. At the function the TTCB will name fifty of the nation's outstanding cricketers and cricket administrators for the period 1962-2012."
The feature speaker will be Sir Reverend Wesley Hall, former West Indies fast bowler and WICB President, who not only represented T&T at regional level but also contributed to the country's cricket development by way of his total involvement in the historic and successful Wes Hall Youth Cricket League in the late sixties and early seventies. More than 400 guests and representatives of the players and officials of the past fifty years are expected to attend and relive some glorious moments of this country's rich cricketing heritage. Among some of the former cricketers flying in for the event are Ireland coach Phil Simmons, Cayman Islands coach Theo Cuffy and Canada coach Gus Logie.
