The Matura river has been described as a hidden gem, with its many exciting pools, waterfalls and gorges to explore.
Manulot is a gorgeous waterfall located five miles upstream the river, in the heart of the Matura Forest. What makes this falls strikingly beautiful is that it flows from a tributary into the main water-course. At the base of the falls where the two streams meet the kinetic energy of the water has eroded the rocks to form a plunge pool over the limestone edge.
The falls is more spectacular in the rainy season when the water flow is at it's highest and the curtain flow of water cascading along the rocks adds brilliance to the scenery.
The two hour hike to Manulot is just as many as an attraction as the falls itself. It features a trek through lush pine and beautiful mountain flora. The trail that winds it way down to the river is wide with gentle inclines. At the river there is a large pool for bathing or the option to explore further upstream to access the falls. Along the way the numerous basins are inviting to splash in and there is a rock that has the shape of Africa.
Fitness Walkers Hiking Group will lead a team of hikers to the Manulot Falls tomorrow.
