There have been no reports of T&T nationals in need of assistance after Hurricane Sandy made its way through several Caribbean islands, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar confirmed this afternoon.
The PM's statement came two days after the tropical storm was upgraded to a category one hurricane and a hurricane watch put in effect for Jamaica.
Two deaths have since been reported in Jamaica.
"Our heartfelt prayers are with the people of Jamaica at this time," the statement said.
PM Persad-Bissessar spoke with her Jamaican counterpart Portia Simpson-Miller to convey concern on behalf of the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago for the people of Jamaica in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the statement said.
The Prime Minister expressed her sadness at the news of two deaths that have been reported as a result of Hurricane Sandy.
"We are also very concerned about the well-being of our Caribbean brothers and sisters in Haiti, Cuba and the Bahamas and will continue to monitor developments in that regard."
The statement said the PM had assured Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller of Trinidad and Tobago's "readiness to assist our CARICOM neighbour".
