The Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago, is to be given a multi-million facelift. Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Orville London said the stadium, built under a Build Own Lease Transfer (BOLT) arrangement, was still under the administration of the Ministry of Sport which was something THA administrations had tried to rectify.
He said the stadium was still not owned by the Government but by the financiers. London said it would undergo major repairs.
He said the entire football field would be dug up and redone while the athletic track would be taken up and relaid. He said the drainage of the football field was unsatisfactory. He said work at the stadium would begin next week and would take an estimated three months to complete.
Unfortunately, he said, the upcoming athletic season would be disrupted but the repairs must be done to bring it to an acceptable standard.
