Dou­ble Olympic medal­list Lalonde Gor­don was ho­n­oured at the To­ba­go House of As­sem­bly (THA) Chief Sec­re­tary awards fol­low­ing his per­for­mance at the Lon­don Olympic Games in Au­gust. The cer­e­mo­ny took place at the Vic­tor E Bruce Build­ing in Scar­bor­ough on Tues­day, in com­mem­o­ra­tion of As­sem­bly Day.

Gor­don along with sprint­er Kel­ly-Ann Bap­tiste were recog­nised in the field of sports. The quar­ter-mil­er sped to bronze in the men's 400-me­tre fi­nals in Lon­don in a per­son­al best of 44.52 sec­onds to be­come the first To­bag­on­ian to medal at the Olympics. He re­turned to lead T&T's men's 4x400m team to bronze in a na­tion­al record of 2:59.40. Ade-Al­leyne Forte, Jar­rid Solomon and De­on Lendore were the oth­er mem­bers.

Gor­don al­so won the na­tion­al (45.40) and the US Club Cham­pi­onships (45.02) one-lap ti­tles. The New York-based ath­lete was not present and broth­er Ojai Gor­don ac­cept­ed the award on his be­half from Chief Sec­re­tary Orville Lon­don.

Bap­tiste was al­so ho­n­oured af­ter be­com­ing the first lo­cal woman to qual­i­fy for an Olympic fi­nal. The 2011 World Cham­pi­onships bronze medal­list was sixth in the women's 100m dash in 10.96. In May, Bap­tiste clocked 10.86, the sixth fastest time of the year. Her moth­er Hazel Tay­lor col­lect­ed the tro­phy for Bap­tiste, who was ab­sent. Bap­tiste, of Ply­mouth vil­lage, won the award in 2010.
