Last Friday at the branch of TTPost, lower Abercromby Street, Port-of-Spain, I witnessed an unfortunate event. At 4.26 pm, the clerk at the counter motioned to the security guard, suggesting that it was time to close the door. He immediately went and proceeded to do same. Now, while he was doing this a woman, a potential customer, reached the door. The guard did not let her in. This was at 4.28. The doors were to be closed at 4.30.
The woman motioned to him that she was in time, but he ignored her and kept the door locked. A man waiting in line inside the office said to him that he should not be treating people like that, to which the guard gave him a 'who you talking to?' disdainful kind of look. This security officer had no regard for the efforts this woman may have taken to reach there on time, or where she was coming from or how important her business may have been. He just couldn't care.
This is not the type of behaviour the public should have to put up with. This was a paying customer who should have been treated with more respect. There is no place for people with attitudes such as what the guard exhibited. His managers must take note and in order to prevent such happening again, should have staff do some training in customer relations. These customers pay them. There is no room for shoddy service.
