The 2011 Carnival scene may have shifted a lot to other countries but the action still continues on a much smaller scale in different parts of the island. My birthday was on April 3 and I found myself in Sangre Grande, an area where I went to school for five years. This time around it wasn't to be taught academics but rather to hear and see The Millionaire Family sing.Led by former promoter, John Michael Alibocas seems to be taking this group of young artistes on an exciting ride to fame and fortune. They are moving fast, and moving in the right direction. The Millionaire Family performed at the After Dark Pub, the premier showplace in the district, to a packed house which was patiently awaiting them.
What was impressive was the VIP section that was elegantly put away for the eagerly awaited arrival. The After Dark folk furnished the space with many comforts including a cozy couch set, decorated the section with plants, and provided a bottled water service, stuff many promoters don't seem to afford many artistes. The Millionaire Family, which includes Kerry John, Makavelli, Orlando Octave, Fadda Moses and Jah Mel, seems set for Fire fete in Canada at the end of this month.
