It seems that the only one I can call on to help me is Uncle Jack Warner, who our recently crowned Calypso Monarch referred to as "the minister of everything." There are four confirmed cases of dengue fever in the Woodbrook area (two of which were on my street) and in my efforts to contact the relevant authorities to have the area sprayed (as this has not been done in a long time) I have drawn a blank.
Although it is not the rainy season, for some reason there are a lot of mosquitoes at this time. I would assume that the PoS hospital where the two people on my street were admitted and treated would contact the authorities concerning spraying but the young doctor on duty, who not so assuredly "believe that it would be done," could not convince me that it would be.
So I decided to call the NWRHA office at the hospital and the young woman who answered the phone could only advise me to "call the Ministry of Health" as she didn't have a clue as to whose jurisdiction this falls under. I called the ministry's Park Street office but there was no answer. I got the automated dialling service but I did not have the last name of anyone there to dial their extension. Then I called the chief public health inspector, Environmental/Health Division, with the same result. So who do I call? I know it would be futile to try and contact the Minister of Health so I am appealing to Uncle Jack, who seems to get things done, to please contact the relevant department for me. Four cases of dengue fever in an area as small as Woodbrook is nothing to be ignored. Uncle Jack, help!
