The sisters of St Dominic's Children's Home are set to put a whole new spin on the saying "sister can cook." The nuns will switch their habits for aprons and hairnets and promise great food "nun" like you have ever tasted when they host their all inclusive cook-out-Sisters Can Cook- next Saturday, at Holy Name Convent, 2 Queen's Park East, opposite the Memorial Park, Port-of-Spain. "Patrons can expect fine dining with a range of delicious foods from which to choose. There will also be live, quality entertainment and good company," said Sr Arlene Greenidge, acting manager at the Home.
The sisters have called in reinforcements with sisters and friends around the country, set to lay a hand on the food preparation. And it's all for a good cause. The funds raised from the event will be utilised to send 12 young leaders from the home's Shalom Centre to an international youth conference at World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid Spain from August 11-24. The Shalom Centre, recently introduced on the home's Belmont Campus, is a space where residents can access counseling services, leadership training and recreational opportunities.
"The young people are at a crossroad in their lives. They have to make important choices that would impact upon their future. Past experience has shown that conferences like thesereinforces positive life giving values, and so we think it's timely for this group of young people," said Sr Greenidge of the opportunity for the group to attend the international conference. Carded for the eve of Mother's Day, there will also be a special treat for mothers.
