Cops continue probe into Maraval murder

Homi­cide de­tec­tives were up to late yes­ter­day con­tin­u­ing their probe in­to the killing of Chi­nese pro­pri­etor An­tho­ny Chin.The 61-year-old busi­ness­man, who owned Chi­na Palace Restau­rant at Eller­slie Plaza, St Clair, and lived at Hills­bor­ough, Mar­aval, was shot dead on Sun­day out­side his busi­ness place.Chin's son and daugh­ter, who ar­rived from abroad af­ter his mur­der, spent sev­er­al hours at the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre yes­ter­day, await­ing the au­top­sy re­sults.The fam­i­ly mem­bers, who re­fused to be in­ter­viewed, drove away from the cen­tre in a green BMW.

Po­lice said they were work­ing on sev­er­al leads.Chin had been ques­tioned in con­nec­tion with the kid­nap­ping of Chi­nese restau­rant own­er Xue Hua Shan.Shan, 31, was re­port­ed ab­duct­ed out­side her Sev­enth Street, Barataria, home on April 14. A $4 mil­lion ran­som has been de­mand­ed for her safe re­lease.Shan is the own­er of Hap­py Gar­dens Restau­rant on St He­le­na Main Road.Busi­ness ac­quain­tances told po­lice that Chin owed a large gam­bling debt of $2 mil­lion and was pay­ing back a loan of $30,000 a month.
