A Port-of-Spain businessman has appeared in court, charged with receiving almost $50,000 worth of stolen olive oil and aluminum foil.Jan Quay Mar, 61, owner of Quay Mar Supermarkets on Nelson Street and Queen Street, Port-of-Spain, appeared before Senior Magistrate Lucina Cardenas-Ragoonanan in the Port-of-Spain Magistrates' Court, charged with three counts of receiving stolen goods. Cardenas-Ragoonanan granted Quay Mar bail with surety in the sum of $60,000.
It was alleged that the goods, property of Sunland Foods Ltd, were received by Quay Mar between April 19 and May 4. Cpl Peterson, of the Tunapuna CID, led the investigation to the supermarkets where the police allegedly recovered a small amount of the missing goods. Quay Mar was represented by attorney Patrick Godson-Phillip, while police prosecutor Azard Ali represented the State. The matter was adjourned to June 29.
