Striker Scott Sealy says it's been almost four years since he played an injury-free game. The former St Mary's College forward is currently battling to maintain a place in the San Jose Earthquakes first team in the American MLS. He admitted that he's had to put club and personal status before body. "Every time I feel like I can come out here and practice or help the team in a game, I'm out there," Sealy said. "I'm not trying to shy away from anything.
I wouldn't say I'm 100 per cent. I wouldn't say I'm 50 per cent. It's somewhere in between. It's a long process. Hopefully, it gets better." Head coach Frank Yallop told MLSsoccer.com: "The recurring injuries with Scotty, he just can't seem to get healthy. It's tough stuff. When he's 100 per cent fit, he's a good player. When he's in between, he struggles." Sealy noted that rest helps. "But how long can I really rest for?" "Are you going to rest to get better and miss two months of the season or do I keep trotting on [the field] and hopefully things will get better? I don't think they want me to rest. They don't want me out for four or five weeks. And I don't want to be out for four or five weeks."
Holder nets winner for FC New York
Trinidad-born midfielder Quame Holder enjoyed one over national midfielder Kendall Jagdeosingh as he netted a 27th minute goal to help FC New York to a 2-1 victory over Rochester Rhinos in American USL Pro League on Monday. Holder signed a two-year contract with the club on April. He was born in Port of Spain but moved to Brooklyn at age 13 and spent two years with the New York Red Bulls Under 23 team. "Quame is a talented player who will play anywhere," FC New York Head coach Matt Weston said. "We took notice of him immediately in the first tryout he attended. We were enthusiastic about his style of play."
Jagdeosingh started for Rhinos before being substituted in the 71st minute. "He's not a bad player at all. I didn't even realise that he (Holder) was from Trinidad," Jagdeosingh said. "The game itself was a right one and we were unfortunate to suffer a loss. Right now we're still trying to find the right rhythm and I'm confident we are going to improve as the season goes on."
Yorke pays tribute to Scholes
Dwight Yorke has described Paul Scholes as one of the legends to have played at Old Trafford. His reaction came on Tuesday following the news that the player called time on his career which encompassed 676 appearances for United after his debut in 1994 and brought him ten Premier League titles in addition to the 2008 Champions League triumph. "When you look back you talk about legends of the game, he's certainly up there. Twenty trophies since 1994, he just seems to get better and better," Yorke told Sky Sports. "The four years I've played alongside him, he is the best player, one of the first names on the manager's teamsheet. He is just a complete legend. There are not enough players like Paul Scholes around anymore for my liking. Legend is over-used but this guy is right up there with the very best."
Jones; FA right up there with World Cup
Ever wondered why Kenwyne Jones kisses his arm everytime he scores a goal in the Premiership? Well keep wondering because the big striker said in a recent interview that he'd rather keep it a secret. "Sorry, a lot of people want to know that but I'll keep that personal," said Jones who is currently back home in Trinidad on off season and was unveiled this week as a Guinness Ambassador. Jones lined up for Manchester City in the English FA Cup Final last month, adding that it would be among his memorable occasions. He also had a chat with Dwight Yorke prior to the encounter.
"Watching it on TV as a kid is a big difference to actually smelling the pitch on the day. Yeah, but like any kid growing up you would watch it, but that is only just watching it on TV. It's a massive, massive difference being a part of it. Playing in the final is a big difference. "If you try to compare then it stands on the same line. Being in the FA Cup final is a great achievement, but then making the World Cup is a great achievement, playing in the Premier League is a great achievement. They all rank in the same place. "Everything can only be at the top, you only have one height you can reach more or less which you stack everything on," Jones added.
