As a nation we are beseeched with controversy after controversy and our politicians are forever in the mix. With a relatively new coalition government that admitted to significant errors thus far and an over zealous Opposition bent on obtaining political mileage at all costs, we find that good news features less and less. The latest scandal where FIFA provisionally suspended its Vice President, Jack Warner-a man recently extolled as T&T's best performing minister is certainly cause for concern and serves as "ammunition" for the Opposition and the usual Partnership detractors.
Allegations of bribery at Mr Warner's level and status in FIFA surely redounds negatively to T&T as the drama is being played out on an international platform and because the world holds public figures guilty until proven innocent. In this time of uncertainty, though, Mr Warner's dilemma may take away a bit from Mr Manning's walk for democracy, which many see as a farce and desperate plea for power again. Moreover, Minister Dookeran's unselfish gesture of relinquishing his leadership of the COP amounts to yet another issue that can derail the thoughts of others and impact performances by extension.
In all this mayhem the populace is obliged to remind all ministers and members of Parliament that while there is cause for concern at times, focusing on their duties and keeping the people's business close at heart must be their priority. The problems affecting one minister and/or ministry, as far as possible, must not be allowed to impact delivery by fellow ministers. There is no time for sidelining-only service, service, service.
