Former prime minister Basdeo Panday says constituents of Barataria/San Jaun have complained of not having access to their Member of Parliament Dr Fuad Khan.Panday said that was because Khan who was the Minister of Health, who was still involved in his private practice as a urologist. He said it was wrong for Khan to be a minister and also carry out his private practice. Panday said it was a similar situation to Works and Infrastructure Minister Jack Warner also being an executive member of world football governing body, FIFA.He said Khan should realise that based on his salary his job as a minister was full time.
Panday said Khan's "constituents were suffering, even though he claims he was doing his private job after 4 pm and on weekends."He said Khan should give up his private practice to ensure he was able to do his job, not only as a minister, but as a politician. He said Khan should have told the Prime Minister when asked to accept the health portfolio that he could not "at this time" because he would have had to conclude the matters before him in his medical practice.Khan has insisted he has done no wrong and has not breached the Integrity in Public Life Act.
