Scores of spectators revelled in the ecstatic performances by Vybz Kartel and the Empire Family, as Slam 100 FM presented Summer Time at Sting Night Club last Sunday. Fresh out of Portmore, Jamaica, Kartel, accompanied by his crew Sheeba, Gaza Indu, Gaza Slim and Sean Shawn Storm, arrived at the night club shortly after midnight.His presence alone at the club caused a stir, as many rushed to the entrance to catch a glimpse. Kartel and the Empire Family socialised with Slam personalities‚ J Angel and Travis to the World as they relaxed in the VIP section of the club. Chants of‚ "Kartel, Kartel" could be heard as fans impatiently awaited his performance.Some of the fans took the opportunity to pose for photos with the artistes, with many receiving autographs. Kartel, who also refers to himself as De Teacher, unexpectedly ran on the stage as Shawn Storm performed, and sent the crowd into a frenzy.
Dressed in an orange gym top, blue jeans and a knapsack on his back, the artiste began his performance by belting out his 2010 hit, Clarks, and the audience over powered his voice when he sang Nah Let Go, Bicycle and Love Dem.After several renditions, he told the crowd, "I'm just warming up you know, there is more madness to come."Indeed it was, as his Empire colleagues joined in and belted out some of their collaborative hits.
Songs included Virginity and Come Breed Me with Gaza Indu, Do Me Dat with Sheeba, and One Man with Gaza Slim. He also performed Street Vybz, Ramping Shop and Pon de Gaza, to which fans partied hard until dawn.He then told fans that many of them had taken photos with him, and it was time to take a picture with them.As he turned his back to the audience he was almost sucked into the crowd of adoring fans. Earlier in the night Slam 100 FM‚ DJ's Aswaad, Five Star, Akil and Wattie had rocked the consoles as they set the trend for a night of excitement.
