Craig Di­az, 32, has be­come the coun­try's lat­est mur­der vic­tim. Di­az, of Di­a­mond Lane, Egypt Trace Ex­ten­sion, Crown Trace, En­ter­prise, Ch­agua­nas, was gunned down around 5.20 am yes­ter­day. Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, Di­az, who was known to them, was with his com­mon- law wife when a man en­tered the house and shot him with a hand­gun, three times to the up­per body. Po­lice said the man al­so aimed the gun at Di­az's com­mon-law wife but it failed to go off. Po­lice on pa­trol in the crime-rid­dled area re­spond­ed.

The gun­man, how­ev­er, es­caped on foot and has not yet been held. Di­az was tak­en to the Ch­agua­nas Health Cen­tre by a neigh­bour where he was pro­nounced dead. When the T&T Guardian vis­it­ed the area, a spokesman for rel­a­tives of the vic­tim said the fam­i­ly had no com­ment. Homi­cide South vis­it­ed the scene and is con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions. This is the sec­ond killing in cen­tral Trinidad since the state of emer­gency was de­clared.
