Southern Division officers seized an Italian-made sub-machine gun, a shotgun and sniper camouflage clothing from a former soldier over the weekend. The 39-year-old suspect, of Diamond Village, Claxton Bay, who is also a scrap metal dealer, was among 53 people arrested during anti-crime exercises in the Southern Division. Officers from the San Fernando Taskforce and Crime Suppression Unit, coordinated by Senior Supt Deodath Dulalchan and spearheaded by ASP Zamsheed Mohammed, Insp Hosein, Cpls Davis Lewis and Anthony Wolffe, raided a house in Claxton Bay.
The officers, together with Lieutenant Wright and his platoon, searched the house and found an Italian-made Taurus sub-machine gun with sniper tripod, an ammunition canister, rifle sling, sniper jacket and camouflage clothing. A Remington 12-gauge shotgun and four mobile phones were also seized during the raids. Officers also conducted searches in Pleasantville and arrested a teen for possession of a 9mm Taurus pistol and eight rounds of ammunition at around 11.45 am on Saturday.
Police officers were on mobile patrol in Orchard Gardens when WPC Subero became suspicious of a teenager who was standing at the side of the road. The officers searched the teen and found a silver Luger 9mm pistol with eight rounds in his pants waist. On Saturday at around 11.30 am officers received information that led them to Harris Street, San Fernando, where they found a bloodied gun butt in an area near St Paul's Anglican Primary School. The wooden gun butt was wrapped in newspapers. PC Richard Kishore is continuing inquiries.
