A Justice of the Peace appeared in the San Fernando Magistrates' Court yesterday charged with stealing by fraud a total of $27,000 from two people. Hamid Mohammed, a Justice of the Peace, of Calcutta No 2, Freeport, appeared before Magistrate Alicia Chankar. It is alleged he took the money on the promise that he could secure Housing Development Corporation homes for them.He was arrested and charged with the two offences.
At the San Fernando Police Station last Friday another Justice of Peace granted him $140,000 bail. Mohammed, who was able to secure bail, was not called upon to plead when the charges were read. The first charge alleged that between May 5, 2009, and July 23, 2009, he stole $10,000 from Sandra Shah at Tunapuna. The other charge alleged that between January 31, 2010, and March 26, 2010, at Debe he stole $17,000 from Nadaleen Khan. He was not represented by an attorney. The Tunapuna matter was transferred to the Tunapuna Magistrates' Court to September 16. The Debe matter was adjourned to October 12.
