Police exercises between Monday and yesterday morning have resulted in the seizure of four illegal firearms and the arrest of an alleged car thief from central Trinidad.In the first exercise between 1 pm and 4 pm on Monday in the Arima area officers of the Arima CID recovered a .22 rifle and a homemade shotgun.The exercise led by Superintendent Samuel Bullen, discovered the weapons hidden in empty lots in Pope Road, Malabar, Arima and off the Blanchisseuse Road.The exercise included Inspectors Seecharan and Mark.Several hours later, officers of the Northern Division led by Inspector Jugmohan, recovered a pump action shotgun at Boney Lane, Tunapuna.Meanwhile, at around 2.30 am yesterday officers of the Chaguanas CID led by Inspector Wayne Lawrence arrested a 36-year-old man from Bank Village, Carapichaima.The man, police say, had been behind a series of vehicular larcenies before the announcement of the state of emergency on August 21.A 25-year-old female companion of the man was also arrested by police.The couple was detained after police raided a hotel at Alistair Drive, Montrose, Chaguanas.Police say a .38 revolver loader with six rounds of ammunition was also found in their possession.
